Popular Front Party Issues Warning: “We Will Take Legal Action Against Those Using the Name of the APFP Abroad”

According to information we have received, following the arrest of Ali Karimli, a network involved in preparing and selling fraudulent political asylum documents has been producing fake APFP membership cards and letters purportedly issued by senior party officials and selling them to individuals. We have also received information about several individuals allegedly involved in leading this network.

We hereby state that the APFP has not issued membership cards to anyone for many years. To date, the party leadership has not issued any letters to anyone who is not a member of the party. In general, the very small number of APFP members who have obtained political asylum abroad have applied to the relevant authorities in the countries where they reside on the basis of concrete documents proving their political activities and factual evidence of the pressure and persecution they faced. Such cases have involved only a very small number of people. The APFP has always been particularly sensitive about the use of the party’s name in such matters.

However, the fact that some individuals are using the APFP’s name for their own unscrupulous purposes is forcing us to contact political asylum authorities in Western countries and warn them about this situation. At the same time, we want to make it clear to those involved in preparing fraudulent documents in the name of the APFP that we will also approach law-enforcement authorities in Western countries and ask them to investigate cases involving the submission of such fraudulent documents in the name of the APFP. Those involved in such activities should therefore understand that they may also face legal liability.

The APFP is an organization of dedicated people who have resisted authoritarianism in Azerbaijan and fought for democracy and freedom for many years. No one has the right to use the name of the APFP, which has been preserved through the unity of conviction and purpose of people who have devoted their lives to the struggle under the most difficult conditions of repression and at the cost of numerous sacrifices.

Let those involved in fraudulent activities understand that we will closely monitor this matter and will take legal action against any attempts to exploit the name of the APFP and the selfless struggle of its members.
