ASİMKOM Sues Aliyev!
New Membership Acceptance
On November 30, the Coordination Center of Azerbaijani Political Refugees held its next meeting. Several issues were discussed during the meeting, including the organization’s website and the acceptance of new members.
With the majority of votes from the participants, Ilgar Hajiyev (USA), Nurida Guliyeva (USA), Parviz Hatemov (Canada), Behruz Aliyev (Switzerland), and Rza Talebi (Germany) were admitted to ASİMKOM.
The announcement of the creation of the ASİMKOM website was met with great satisfaction, and the administrators were appointed.
Documentation of Aliyev’s Crimes
The most significant event at the November 30 meeting was the decision to prepare a complaint to the International Criminal Court regarding numerous events that took place during Ilham Aliyev’s rule, which are considered crimes against humanity. The complaint seeks to hold Ilham Aliyev personally accountable for his actions. It was decided that ASİMKOM would begin official efforts to identify a state that accepts the jurisdiction of the Hague Court to partner with ASİMKOM in this matter. A draft letter of appeal was approved for the heads of states identified in the meeting.
Letter Text:
“Dear Sir/Madam,
In 2003, Ilham Aliyev came to power by falsifying elections, using administrative force, and applying violence that led to the death of citizens. Since then, he has repeated the falsification of presidential election results at least five times, seizing the presidency each time.
During his presidency (2003-2024), thousands of individuals have been imprisoned on political grounds, under false charges, the vast majority of whom have been recognized as political prisoners or prisoners of conscience by local and international organizations, including Amnesty International.
Under Ilham Aliyev’s rule, severe torture has been applied to citizens, often against large groups of people. Many people were killed during the torture of individuals and groups.
Additionally, under Ilham Aliyev’s rule, thousands of people have been forced to leave Azerbaijan due to political persecution, some of whom were assassinated abroad because they continued their political activities in foreign countries.
All these facts are presented in detail in the attached report.
This report is a legal document prepared by ASİMKOM – the Coordination Center of Azerbaijani Political Refugees. We are addressing you, as a representative of a state that accepts the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court, in accordance with the rules of the International Criminal Court.
In the report we have prepared, there are sufficient facts and legal arguments to consider and classify Ilham Aliyev’s actions over the more than 20 years he has held power through falsification as crimes against humanity.
We request that, as an official partner of ASİMKOM, you present our complaint to the International Criminal Court.
This will be regarded as your service to international law and humanity as a High Party that accepts the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court.
Precedent: The Republic of Poland against Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.
Respectfully,
ASİMKOM”
